Cohesive Silicone Gel Implants

Cohesive gel implants also popularly known as gummy bear implants are silicone gel implants implanted in a person's body. These implants are generally used to enhance the personality of an individual, implanted just under the skin, they have no connection with the body tissues or vessels and are an independent part altogether. Implants grew in importance in the 1980's as a tool to look beautiful and proportionate for those who weren't! Initial implants were the silicone gel implants which till date are still used in some countries. These implants contain slimy silicone gel within their hard shell are shaped well to suit the particular body of the individual.

Cohesive silicone gel is now available in the European Union but it's still under approval by drug enforcement agency of the United States. The cohesive silicone gel implants are the latest development among the implants. The cohesive ones are filled with hardened gel within themselves, such that it prevents gel bleed which was happening with the earlier implants. Gel bleed is a process wherein the gel from the implants starts to leak out due to damage, a phenomena that happens generally in the traditional saline implants. The cohesive implants are designed not to rupture and gel bleed since the gel within it is hardened and a hardened gel will never leak, thus being safer than the traditional implants. Hard gel on the inside and the hardened structure on the outside of the implant make it harder, more durable and safe too.

The cohesive gel is available in sizes and shapes that suit you needs. The cohesive implants are such that they do not migrate with the body movement and remain at their positions, in addition the compression of the scar tissue and the capsular contracture occurs less with the cohesive implants.

The disadvantages of the cohesive silicone gel implants are that they require a larger incision for the insertion of the implants within the body, the cost of implants are higher compared to that of the traditional saline implants and the cost of the augmentation surgery can be high too.

Well, since the cohesive silicone gel implants are rupture free and tend to retain their place within the body they are a safe bet! So switch to cohesive implants.
